Welcome to a new Developer Diary of Lords & Empires!
As we mentioned last week, today we’re diving into our military units and how they are produced.
So, what exactly is a military unit?
In the simplest terms, they are villagers who are willing to give everything for the growth of your empire. However, turning an ordinary villager into a skilled soldier is far from easy.
⚙️ Resources & Production Chain
Training soldiers requires strong resource management.
For example, to produce armor, you need iron, which is supplied by your Ironworks. But the process doesn’t end there.
- To craft bows, you need wood → supplied by the Lumber Camp
- Advanced equipment also requires gold → produced by workers in your Mines
As you can see, everything in Lords & Empires is interconnected. Without building a proper production chain, creating a powerful army is impossible.
🏭 Armory & Equipment Production
Once you have enough resources, production begins.
The Armory, which we previously introduced, is one of the most important buildings, supplying all equipment for your army.

In the Armory, you can produce 7 different types of equipment:
- Armor
- Spear
- Sword
- Bow
- Crossbow
- War Horse
- Siege Equipment
The level of your Armory grants you production points. With these points, you can choose which equipment to produce and in what quantities.
As you might expect, armor is the most critical resource, as nearly every military unit requires it. That said, the final decision is always yours and depends entirely on your strategy.
🏹 Barracks & Military Units
Now that we have everything needed to train soldiers, let’s take a look at the Barracks.

In the Barracks, you can train 9 different units, divided into 4 main categories:
- Center Units (4)
- Flank Units (3)
- Ranged Units (2)
- Siege Units (2)
🛡️ Center
- Militia
- Spearman
- Guard
- Legionary
⚔️ Flank
- Swordmaster
- Elite Vanguard
- Cavalry
🏹 Ranged
- Archer
- Crossbowman
🧱 Siege
- Catapult
- Trebuchet
We will cover the roles of these positions on the battlefield in much greater detail in future developer diaries.
📊 Unit Stats & Strategy
Each military unit has the following attributes:
Attack, Defense, Power, Armor, Health, Speed, Capacity, Battle Formation, and Upkeep

These attributes make every unit unique. Some excel in defense, others shine in offense, while some provide balanced performance in both situations.
For example, if your enemy relies on heavily armored units, using ranged crossbowmen can be a smarter tactical choice.
In Lords & Empires, victory always depends on the right strategy.
🔜 What’s Next?
That’s all for now regarding our military units.
Feel free to ask any questions in the comments—we’re happy to answer them.
Although we usually share a developer diary every week, our next topic will be the Combat System, which is a major feature we want to explain in detail. For this reason, our next developer diary will be published one month later.
See you soon—
we’ll meet on the battlefield! ⚔️🔥
