Welcome to another Developer Diary of Lords & Empires!
Today we’ll take a closer look at the espionage system in our game.
What is a Spy?
Spies are special units that uncover information your rivals would rather keep hidden. In short, they allow you to learn what is happening behind enemy lines.
How to Train Spies
To train spies, you must first build the “Intelligence Guild” in your capital.

As the building level increases, the number of spies you can train also increases.
Spy Attributes
Spies have two main attributes:
• Espionage Power
Used when gathering information about your rivals.
• Counter-Espionage Power
Used to defend against spies sent by your enemies.
You can also gain additional espionage and counter-espionage bonuses through various in-game sources.
What Information Can Spies Gather?
Currently, spies can collect information in six different areas:
- Activity status
- Troop count
- Last message
- Wall level
- Gold amount
- Recent notifications

Possible Mission Outcomes
After sending a spy on a mission, you must wait for them to reach their target. Once they do, one of three outcomes may occur:
✔ Successful mission: You obtain the requested information.
⚠ Failed mission: The spies fail, but their sender cannot be identified.
❌ Failed & captured: All spies are caught and your identity is revealed.
From now on, you might want to think twice before sending certain messages…
That’s all we have to share about the espionage system for now.
